Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today confirmed receipt of a letter from Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh where the PM has assured that the union home ministry is to address the issues raised by some of the states. Budget session of Odisha Assembly Started today, Opposition members boycotted the address by Governor

The session of Odisha legislative Assembly to pass the annual budget for 2012-13 financial year started today, the 21 February 2012. On the opening day of the budget session, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh stood up and shouted alleging the ruling BJD of misusing the government machinery, using both money power and encouraging flow of liquor during the Panchayat polls. Twenty injured as Silo of IFFCO Plant collapsed in Odisha's Paradeep

At least twenty workers sustained injuries as the roof of the DAP fertiliser plant SILO of IFFCO (Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited) plant collapsed this afternoon at Odisha’s Paradip, 110 KMs from Bhubaneswar.

Soon after the collapse, some workers and rescue teams rescued the injured persons who were then sent to the local Medical. Four persons surviving critical injuries have been shifted to Cuttack. >>> Read More

A Snake Helpline Volunteer Subhendu Mallick of Bhubaneswar hatched baby cobra snakes from 17 eggs at his home. Bred at home in a controlled atmosphere, the cobra eggs started hatching in 45-47 days while naturally it takes about 60 days.

From the success in hatching the cobra eggs at home, Subhendu hopes that this method may be applied in a larger scale for saving the reptiles that are on the verge of extinction. (Bhubaneswar, July 2010)

Story of Navjeevanpur - the Dhokra Village

The villagers of Navjeevanpur (near Dhenkanal in Orissa), known as 'Ghantara', have been working day in and day out since many generations to keep a tradition alive.

They take all pains to make the craft product called Dhokra but the benefits are enjoyed by the middlemen and local money lenders who supply the raw materials to the village artisans and give them some advance money on the condition that the ownership over the final Dhokra products would not remain with the artisans, but with the middlemen and Money Lenders.
